They aren’t just stopping at a couple of sequels—they’re eyeing at least five more projects, including two full-length films. The story of Noah and May is far from over, and Kingdom has kicked off a new trilogy. The franchise was rebooted in 2011 with Rise of the Planet of the Apes, starring James Franco and Andy Serkis, which grossed nearly half a billion dollars on a $93 million budget. That success led to two more films, often referred to as the Caesar Trilogy, centering on Caesar’s story. Although Caesar’s saga concluded, Kingdom still managed to resonate with audiences and turned a profit for the studio.

Even before the Caesar Trilogy began, the filmmakers had a nine-film series in mind. With four movies already out, five more are planned. While all nine films might be a stretch, a fifth installment is almost certain. The focus now is on full-length movies, with director Wes Ball mentioning that if Kingdom performs well, they’ll dive straight into the next chapter of Noah’s journey. Owen Teague, who portrays Noah, is already set to return for at least two more films, with Freya Allen’s character, May, also expected to play a significant role.

While no official word has been given about the fifth film, the studio is reportedly considering Neil Blomkamp, known for District 9, as the director. His unique style could bring a fresh perspective to the franchise, particularly as the plot is rumored to involve a virus turning apes into zombie-like creatures, blending horror and post-apocalyptic elements. If everything aligns, Planet of the Apes 5 could hit theaters as early as 2026. Fans are eagerly awaiting more updates on this evolving saga.
