she may have big plans for her future. The 72-year-old actress, best known for her role as Irene Roberts, recently announced her departure

from the show, and now rumors are swirling that she’s finally ready to tie the knot with her longtime partner, Paul McWatters.

Lynne and Paul have been together for over 40 years and share a 29-year-old daughter, Clancy. A close friend of the couple revealed that with Lynne no longer tied to the demanding filming schedule of Home and Away, a wedding could finally be on the horizon. The actress had previously joked that she and Paul would get married when Clancy did, even laughing about the idea of a double wedding. However, Clancy married in August 2023, and her parents still chose to remain unmarried—until now. With Lynne having more free time, sources say wedding bells might finally be ringing.

Despite keeping her relationship private over the years, Lynne shared the story of how she and Paul first got together in a 2014 interview. She recalled inviting him over for dinner in 1984, and as she put it, “He never went home—still hasn’t!” While she had been waiting for Paul to propose, she never felt rushed. She once joked that they would get married when they needed new household appliances, quipping, “Well, we need a new washing machine now.”

Lynne’s departure from Home and Away marks the end of an era. She described leaving the show as “bittersweet,” reflecting on her nearly 33 years in Summer Bay. In an emotional statement, she expressed gratitude for the cast, crew, and writers who had supported her throughout her career. She credited them for creating incredible storylines for Irene and keeping the character alive for so long.

The actress admitted that the decision to leave had been on her mind for a while. “I’ve still got my health, my fitness, and I’d like to branch out again—maybe do some theatre, radio, or even stand-up comedy,” she said. Joking about the tough decision, she added, “At my age, you either leave voluntarily or in a box!”

Lynne, who took over the role of Irene from actress Jacqy Phillips in 1993, has become one of Home and Away’s longest-serving stars. In 2021, she published a memoir, Acting Up: Me, Myself & Irene, in which she opened up about personal struggles, including battles with drugs and an eating disorder.
