Home and Away: Popular TV Series Makes Huge Change in How to Watch as Announcement is Issued

Fans of Home and Away will soon be able to catch the latest drama from Summer Bay even earlier than before. The long-running Australian soap, which currently airs in the UK on Channel 5 at 1:45 p.m. and offers an early look on 5Star at 6:30 p.m., is making a major shift to a streaming-first model.

Starting Monday, March 10th, new episodes will be available to stream from 6:00 a.m., giving viewers a chance to watch the show well before its usual TV broadcasts. This means episodes will go live more than 12 hours before they air on 5Star and nearly 20 hours ahead of their Channel 5 slot. The change kicks off with episode 8,47, which will hit streaming in the early morning, followed by the first-look edition on 5Star that evening, and finally, the traditional Channel 5 airing the next afternoon.

The decision comes as Channel 5 undergoes a major rebrand, unifying its linear TV, streaming, and digital platforms under the simplified name “5.” A spokesperson revealed that the revamp will also bring a more user-friendly streaming experience and a wider variety of content, including popular shows from MTV, Nickelodeon, and Paramount+.

With this change, Home and Away joins the ranks of other major UK soaps that have embraced a streaming-first approach. Shows like Hollyoaks, EastEnders, Coronation Street, and Emmerdale have all transitioned to early streaming releases, while fellow Australian soap Neighbours is now available exclusively on Prime Video. This marks a significant shift in how audiences consume their favorite soaps, making it easier than ever to stay up-to-date with all the drama.
