It looks like Home and Away might be losing one of its fan-favorite stars! Matt Evans, who has played Theo Poulos since 2021, has hinted that he may be preparing to leave the beloved Australian soap to chase his dreams in Hollywood.
In a recent interview with Check It TV, the actor and musician opened up about his aspirations, revealing that he has an agent in Los Angeles and is eager to explore new acting opportunities in the US. While Evans made it clear that he’s not officially planning his exit just yet, he did state, “I won’t be on Home and Away forever. It’s not me saying I’m leaving right now, but I have plans for America, and I think now is the right time to start looking into that.”
When discussing the kinds of roles he’d love to take on, Evans shared his passion for romantic comedies, calling himself a “massive romcom fan.” He even admitted that Ryan Gosling is one of his biggest inspirations and that he dreams of landing a role in a film similar to Gosling’s signature lighthearted and charming performances. However, he laughed off the idea of becoming an action star or superhero, saying he’s “too much of a baby-faced guy”—at least for now!
Interestingly, Evans also reflected on his career shift, admitting that he once thought he’d leave acting behind to focus on music full-time. But now? He’s fully embracing the world of acting and doesn’t see himself stepping away anytime soon.
As for Home and Away, Evans expressed his love for the show and hopes it continues to thrive long after he departs. He even touched on the recent Neighbors cancellation, acknowledging its financial struggles while emphasizing that Home and Away has a different appeal, especially with its beautiful Summer Bay setting that attracts global audiences.
