Public Humiliation Rocks Mali as Kirby Walks Away – Is His World About to Crumble?
Things are about to go from bad to worse for Home and Away’s Mali Hudson as his confidence takes a major hit and his public image is dragged through the mud. After months of quietly struggling, Mali’s refusal to admit he’s out of his depth finally explodes in humiliating fashion – and it could cost him everything.
After joining the Summer Bay community and quickly establishing himself at the surfboard shop, Mali (Kyle Shilling) seemed to be riding high. But behind the easy-going smile lies a man who’s barely treading water, and this week, a brutal betrayal, a media takedown, and rising tension with those closest to him threaten to send his entire world crashing down.
The trouble begins when Kirby Aramoana (Angelina Thomson) decides to leave her post at the surfboard shop to focus on her solo music career. It’s a blow Mali didn’t see coming, especially after the emotional rollercoaster Kirby had already endured with her time in Lyrik.
Fans will recall that back in 2023, Kirby left the popular band to go solo – a decision she quickly began to regret. After wrangling with manager Forrest Duke and fighting to regain her freedom, she reunited with Lyrik, only for the band to ultimately fall apart. Now, with no more ties to group life, Kirby is giving her solo career another shot – but her decision leaves Mali in the lurch at the worst possible time.
Despite the obvious pressure of losing his best worker, Mali insists he can manage alone. But as the days go by, it’s clear he’s drowning in responsibilities. Still, pride gets the better of him, and he continues to downplay the situation.
Concerned for him, girlfriend Abigail (Hailey Pinto) steps in with an unorthodox plan. She convinces Kirby to fake being upset about leaving the job, hoping it will motivate Mali to take action and start the hiring process for a replacement. Surprisingly, the plan works. Mali perks up and throws himself into work with a renewed sense of purpose — but that brief reprieve is about to be shattered.
Unbeknownst to Mali, a journalist named Seb recently visited Summer Bay to interview Kirby, and the piece — featuring insights from her time at the board shop — is about to be published. When Mali stumbles upon the article, his heart sinks. What should have been a farewell spotlight for Kirby quickly turns into a public embarrassment for him.
Seb’s article describes Mali as an “incompetent boss,” citing moments of disorganization and poor communication witnessed during the interview. The piece paints a less-than-flattering picture of his professionalism, and Mali is horrified. Worse still, the interview took place in his own shop — the one place he thought he had control.
Devastated and furious, Mali refuses to speak to Kirby, blaming her for airing his dirty laundry in public. Her farewell moment is ruined, and what should have been a celebratory goodbye turns cold and awkward.
Abigail, ever the voice of reason, attempts to bring Mali back to earth by reminding him that Seb didn’t lie — in fact, Mali was rude and dismissive during the journalist’s visit. Her honesty only fuels Mali’s fury. Feeling cornered and exposed, he lashes out and storms away, unable to face the truth.
Now, with his reputation in tatters, Kirby gone, and Abigail walking on eggshells, Mali stands on shaky ground. His pride has cost him dearly, and if he doesn’t start opening up soon, he could risk losing not just his friends, but the business he’s worked so hard to build.
Will Mali come to terms with his mistakes before it’s too late? Or is this the beginning of the end for his life in Summer Bay?
With emotions boiling over and relationships reaching breaking point, Mali’s downfall might just be one of the most gut-wrenching stories to hit the Bay this year. Stay tuned as the fallout unfolds — because this isn’t just a bad review. This could change everything.
