Tane realises that he and Harper will be attending a wedding rehearsal soon and he hasn’t even told Cash. It’s left to Dana to come to the rescue and find the best man. The rehearsal turns out to be an unremarkable affair, with Tane not even giving Harper a practice kiss.
Harper goes through the mementoes from Tane’s wedding to Felicity. Tane is smiling in the photos and Harper can tell the difference compared to their own relationship – this time, he’s not in love.
Harper works up the courage to confront Tane, pointing out that he never seems excited about their wedding. Tane offers various reassurances, but it’s still not enough and Harper struggles to get excited when Irene confirms that she’s coming to the wedding after all.
Later, Harper confides in Dana and reaches a crossroads as she wonders whether the security Tane offers is still enough for her.
Meanwhile, Mackenzie keeps her distance from Levi following their conversation over having a baby. When they finally talk, Mackenzie expresses her fears that they’re now heading in two different directions.
Levi talks to Eden, who reveals that she’s been thinking about marriage again and has decided to propose to Cash. Spurred on by his sister, Levi decides that it’s time to get serious over his own future and tells Mackenzie that he wants to have a baby with her.
Later, Eden tries to talk to Cash about her realisation, but decides that it’s not the right time as he’s distracted by his concerns over Tane and Harper.
As evening settled in, Harper found herself alone on the veranda, fingers tracing the edge of the worn photograph she’d pulled from Tane’s old wedding box. Felicity’s smile was dazzling, youthful, full of energy. And beside her, Tane – beaming, alive. The kind of smile that didn’t have to be explained.
A gust of wind stirred the pages of her wedding planner, now sitting untouched beside her. She’d once looked at that book with so much hope. But lately, it felt more like a checklist for someone else’s life – not hers.
She heard Dana’s footsteps approach behind her.
“You okay?” Dana asked gently, sitting beside her.
Harper took a moment, then shook her head. “I don’t think he loves me. Not like that.”
Dana didn’t respond right away. She just let the silence stretch, comforting in its own way. Then she said, “You know, love doesn’t always look the same. Maybe Tane’s version this time is quieter. More… grounded.”
Harper let out a bitter laugh. “Or maybe it’s just convenient. Maybe I’m convenient.”
Dana placed a hand over hers. “That’s a question only he can answer. But you deserve to be more than safe. You deserve to be wanted.”
Across town, Tane sat outside the Surf Club, lost in thought. He had never imagined that planning another wedding would be this hard. With Felicity, everything had moved fast – wild, passionate, reckless. And then it ended in disaster.
But this time, with Harper, things were calm. Steady. Maybe too steady.
He didn’t notice Cash walk up until he heard his voice.
“Mate, we’ve got a rehearsal tomorrow and you still haven’t told me I’m best man?”
Tane blinked. “Sorry. I… honestly forgot.”
Cash chuckled, but there was a trace of concern in his eyes. “You alright?”
Tane looked down. “Yeah. Just… trying to do things differently this time.”
“Different’s good,” Cash said. “But not if it means shutting everyone out.”
Meanwhile, Mackenzie sat on her bed, staring at the ceiling. Levi’s words kept echoing in her head: “I want to have a baby with you.”
She’d always been independent, always focused on her career, her goals. She wasn’t sure if she was ready for that kind of leap – not now, maybe not ever. But then again, she never imagined Levi wanting it so deeply.
Later, they sat across from each other in silence. Finally, she said, “Are we doing this because we want to, or because everyone else is moving forward?”
Levi took her hand. “I’m doing it because I see a future with you. And in that future, there’s a family.”
Mackenzie swallowed, heart full of doubts but eyes full of him. “Then maybe… we take one step at a time.”
Back at the beach house, Eden paced her bedroom, engagement ring hidden in her pocket. She’d almost proposed to Cash earlier, but the timing had been off – he was too distracted, too worried about Tane and Harper. But the idea wouldn’t let go.
She remembered how he’d stood by her through everything – the traumas, the breakdowns, the rebuilding. If there was ever a time to commit, it was now.
But when she finally found him in the garden, she hesitated. His face was tight with concern, phone in hand.
“Everything okay?” she asked.
Cash looked up. “Tane’s not sure if the wedding should go ahead. Harper’s having second thoughts.”
Eden’s heart sank. Again, the moment slipped away.
She smiled softly, brushing his arm. “We’ll talk later.”
That night, Harper stood at the edge of the beach, eyes locked on the waves. Tane approached her quietly.
“I found the photos,” she said, not turning around.
He nodded. “I figured.”
“You looked happy. Really happy.”
“I was,” Tane admitted. “But that ended in pain. This time, I wanted to build something lasting. Safe.”
Harper finally turned to face him. “But love isn’t just safety. It’s connection. Fire. Do you feel that with me?”
Tane paused, struggling for words. “I care about you deeply. I respect you. I want to protect you.”
“But are you in love with me, Tane?”
The silence was answer enough.
Harper blinked back tears. “I think we both deserve more than this.”
She left him standing there in the dark, alone with the sound of the crashing tide.
Back at home, Dana closed her laptop, sensing the shift in the house’s energy. Moments later, Harper stepped in, face pale but composed.
“Are you okay?” Dana asked.
“I told him,” Harper replied. “And I’m not sure what happens now. But for once, I feel honest.”
Dana hugged her tightly. “Whatever comes next, you’re not alone.”
Harper nodded. “And maybe that’s the first step to figuring out what I really want.”
As the night deepened over Summer Bay, a quiet storm brewed in the hearts of its people – breakups, breakthroughs, and new beginnings, each uncertain but necessary. And for some, the most important vows were the ones they made to themselves.
