SEAL Team’s AJ Buckley issues dire warning against writers’ strikes as he fears ‘disaster’
SEAL Team, like many other productions in the United States, could be hit hard by the WGA’s proposed strikes.
The strikes could begin Tuesday as the Motion Picture and Television Producers Guild and the WGA struggle to find a middle ground.
AMPTP represents Hollywood studios, networks, streamers and other content distributors while WGA represents writers.
In short, the WGA looks forward to compensating writers in the changing media landscape as it seeks to renegotiate contract terms with AMPTP.
If the strikes continue, it will severely impact the ongoing production of a large number of television shows and projects, putting a reported 822,000 direct employees at risk, according to Deadline.
Unwilling to see the industry he loves devastated in such a way, SEAL Team star AJ Buckley has issued an urgent appeal for screenwriters to avoid strike action.
“So I’ve been trying to figure out how to put this into words or whether to write a letter or not,” he said in a video shared to his Instagram page. I said screw it, I’ll just put it out there, give my opinion on something.
“I usually don’t like doing this at all, I don’t think I’ve ever done this before… But I can’t sit still and say nothing.
“The writers, there is a strike pending and yes, there are things that need to be negotiated, 100%, I completely agree, there are things on the actors’ side that need to be negotiated.
“But we’ve just come out of one of the worst economic disasters of two and a half years with this Covid thing that we’ve had. Some people were paralyzed, many people lost their homes (and) businesses, everything.
“Now, some of the great writers, producers, whatever, you guys can weather this storm. Some actors, you can weather this storm. But my concern is that those people – at the end of every season, the writers stand up and thank the crew.
“They thanked the crew in their awards speech, nothing could have been done without the crew, this crew is a family, this wouldn’t have been possible without the endless hours of work the crew put in. filmmaking has spent.
“They were there three hours ago, they made sure your egg whites were perfect and your avocados were just right and your little chairs were pulled up on the screen and three hours later they’re there to replace them. The gender you set above which the page is created.
“And if there are budget cuts, they will find a way to do it at the same level so as not to affect the production value. They work harder.”
Addressing the writers directly, Buckley pleaded: “I want you to think of those people who if you are sincere in all the speeches you make, you will be hurt the most because it will be very disastrous.
“Nothing you negotiate will make up for the economic disaster you will cause. Yes, there is a time and place to strike, but it’s not now. We are in a severe recession and I ask you to find a way to resolve the strike in good faith and negotiation.”
“It’s unfair to our crew and all the other small businesses,” added Buckley. The ripple effect from this will be catastrophic.”
