Charles Venn, known for his action-packed role as paramedic Jacob Masters on Casualty, reveals his excitement over Jacob’s career switch from nurse to paramedic. The transition has given Jacob a fresh perspective, allowing Venn to indulge in thrilling stunts. “All this time at the gym is for a reason!” he tells Love TV Magazine. “I love jumping into burning apartments and rescuing people on the brink of death.”
The current storyline, “Storm Damage,” introduces Jacob as a grandfather after a baby boy is left outside the Emergency Department. Jacob’s son, Blake, is missing, leaving Jacob to care for his grandson Carter with the help of colleague Jan. “It’s better than Carter being taken into care,” Charles explains. Despite the new family responsibilities, Jacob still yearns for romance. “It’s Connie [Beauchamp, played by Amanda Mealing],” Venn shares. “She was the love of Jacob’s life.”
Off-screen, Charles is also a grandfather and embraces the role with pride. Besides his long-standing tenure on Casualty, Venn is venturing into filmmaking with his debut short film, “How To Navigate Being A Monster,” featuring several Casualty co-stars. “I’ve always wanted to create my own piece,” says Charles. “Filmmaking is something I wanted to do but wasn’t brave enough until now.”
Catch Charles Venn on Casualty, Saturday at 8.25pm on BBC One.
