Casualty appoints new boss ahead of TV return

Casualty is officially under new management, with Roxanne Harvey taking over as Executive Producer of the long-running medical drama.

Roxanne, who previously worked as a story producer on the show, will lead the Saturday night serial in the wake of former boss Jon Sen’s departure, in addition to developing her own slate of new projects for both UK and international markets.

Former Coronation Street and Emmerdale boss Kate Oates, who was recently appointed Head of Drama Productions at BBC Studios, said branded Roxanne’s comeback as a ‘warm return’ to Casualty.

Roxanne, meanwhile, said: ‘Casualty holds a special place in my heart, so it’s an exceptional privilege to be joining Kate, Deborah and the phenomenal team to deliver distinctive, addictive characters alongside ambitious, emotionally epic stories that reflect our modern day NHS.

‘I’m equally elated to be building upon a remarkable talent base on the show and in Wales to develop fresh, exciting new dramas that will be just as iconic.’

News of Roxanne’s return to Casualty comes just a month after Jon Sen, who previously worked on EastEnders, lefthis role as boss on the medical drama.

‘With a heavy heart, I’m leaving @BBCCasualty later this year,’ he wrote on X, formerly Twitter.

‘It’s been amazing & hv loved every minute working with creative minds and superb talent. But new horizons beckon. Thanks for the wonderful support we have received over the past two years.’

Casualty has been a staple of Saturday night TV programming in the UK since its launch in 1986 and remains an integral part of the BBC weekend line up, which also includes juggernauts such as Strictly Come Dancing and The Wheel.

The show is currently on an extended hiatus, though it’s safe to say that fans are desperate for its return.

Casualty airs Saturday nights on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
