Casualty isn’t on next week – here’s why fans will have to wait

Casualty fans will have a bit longer to wait before the next episode, as the BBC medical drama won’t be on air next week (17 May).

There’s a simple explanation for this: next week the grand final of the Eurovision Song Contest will be broadcast on BBC One, with UK viewers rooting for girl group Remember Monday to get ‘douze points’ in Basel, Switzerland.

As a result, Casualty won’t be airing in its usual Saturday night slot and also won’t be released early on BBC iPlayer.

However, normal service will resume the week after (24 May), as the show heads into the final three thrilling episodes of the current boxset, ‘Internal Affairs’.

In this series, Rida was sexually assaulted by surgeon Russell while at work and has been torn as to whether to report her colleague’s misconduct.

This week, Rida made the bold decision to make public an online group which exposed the inappropriate behaviour of surgeons nationwide.

When Russell gathered all the women on the surgical team to talk about the list, Nicole spoke up, but Rida surprisingly shut her down – which impressed Russell.

However, Rida later told Nicole that she was trying to get on Russell’s good side, and this was all part of a plan to take him down and get justice. What will Rida’s next move be?

Elsewhere, paramedic Indie’s dad Samuel came back into the picture this week when he was released from prison, and he immediately got back in touch with his daughter.

With Indie currently staying with Jan, she couldn’t give him a place to stay, so she instead took Samuel to a burned-out house that she attended during a previous shift. Will Indie’s decision to help her dad come back to haunt her?

Iain and Faith’s wedding is also fast approaching, with the couple’s big day previewed in the trailer for this boxset.

But with an ambulance also seen crashing into the Emergency Department, there’s a lot of drama to come…

Casualty airs on Saturday nights on BBC One and now streams first on BBC iPlayer, where episodes are released at 6am on the day of transmission.
