Olly Rix, who recently joined the cast of BBC’s Casualty as Clinical Lead Flynn Byron, has addressed the persistent rumors linking him to the iconic role of James Bond. And his comments are certainly fueling the speculation!
Rix’s character, Flynn Byron, is a former Special Forces medic, a background that required Olly to undergo intense physical training with former members of the Special Forces. In a recent exclusive interview with Express.co.uk, Rix revealed that he has maintained and adapted this demanding training regime, even with his busy Casualty filming schedule.
“I’m still training with them, and that’s something that we just work out through the day. We improvise, and we address that (his filming schedule) each week, and they write new programmes and they say, ‘right, you get 20 minutes here between scenes – do this’, and then it’s all very intense and all very heavy and quick,” Rix stated.
Crucially, he then directly linked this rigorous physical preparation to the Bond whispers: “But I really like that, and that’s feeding quite nicely into other conversations and other projects, and certainly into the Bond stuff as well, which they absolutely love. So it’s all kind of worked out pretty nicely to be honest.”
The Al Pacino Connection
The Bond rumors surrounding Olly Rix initially gained traction after it was revealed that Julie Pacino, daughter of legendary actor Al Pacino, included him in a photographic portfolio of British actors she believes should take over the 007 mantle from Daniel Craig. Rix confirmed this connection, noting that Al and Julie Pacino are working on a project commissioning these portraits.
What This Means for the Bond Race:
While Olly Rix’s comments are exciting for fans, it’s important to remember:
- No Decision Yet: Amazon MGM Studios, now overseeing the Bond franchise, has indicated they want a “fresh” James Bond who respects the legacy, but no official casting decision has been made.
- Frontrunners Remain Varied: Actors like Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Theo James are still frequently mentioned as frontrunners by bookmakers.
- Olly Rix’s Commitment to Casualty: Despite the Bond buzz, Rix is currently heavily involved with Casualty and confirmed he will be around for the show’s 40th anniversary next year, suggesting he’s committed to his role as Flynn Byron for the foreseeable future.
So, while Olly Rix is clearly in the conversation and actively keeping himself in peak Bond-like physical condition, the next 007 remains one of Hollywood’s most closely guarded secrets. His recent comments, however, add a significant new dimension to the ongoing speculation.
