Casualty spoilers follow.

Casualty star Michael Stevenson has revealed that his character Iain Dean will find himself in grave danger in this week’s episode.

The actor spoke exclusively to Inside Soap about this dramatic storyline, which involves a dangerous stunt over the edge of a cliff.

Iain’s life has changed considerably in recent months, with his relationship with Faith growing more serious and giving him a family unit.

But the paramedic is still prone to taking risks in his job, and this week’s episode is no exception, with he and Stevie taking part in a training day with the Helicopter Emergency Medical Services (HEMS).

“An opportunity arises for Iain to do more work with HEMS, with which comes a training course,” Stevenson explained to the magazine. “I think he realises that itch inside him constantly needs scratching.

“Then Stevie just wants to be out of the ED for a bit, she needs a change from everything that is going on in her life. She just needs space from it all, to get away from Siobhan.”

The eventful day takes a shocking turn for Iain and Stevie, when a training exercise goes seriously wrong and results in both their lives hanging in the balance.

Stevenson said: “They have to abseil down a cliff harnessed to each other to get to a dummy, with a paramedic stretcher attached to them. There is a malfunction which means the ropes they are dangling from are fraying and unsteady.

“One rope breaks, and the remaining rope can’t withstand the weight of them both. So one of them has to make a sacrifice…”

In the full interview, Stevenson speaks in detail about this dramatic plot, with some behind-the-scenes secrets about what it was like to film this dangerous stunt with co-star Elinor Lawless.

Also in this week’s instalment of current boxset ‘Public Property’, Nicole continues to cause concern when she falls ill in the ED and fails to spot a serious illness in a patient. Will Ngozi and Faith get to the bottom of what is wrong?

The full interview can be found in Inside Soap’s latest issue, which is available to buy in shops and online from Tuesday, January 21.

Casualty airs on Saturday nights on BBC One and now streams first on BBC iPlayer, where episodes are released at 6am on the day of transmission.
