During an episode of ITV’s Breaking Dad, Barney Walsh admitted he was concerned about his dad Bradley’s health while they visited a space center to undergo centrifuge training
Barney Walsh once admitted to being concerned about dad Bradley’s health while filming ITV’s hit series, Breaking Dad. The famous dad-and-son duo star in the ITV show, which sees Bradley, 64, taken by son Barney, 26, on a road trip across several countries and take part in a number of daring activities. Breaking Dad will be back with a fifth series in 2025.
During one of their escapades in 2019, Barney wondered if he’d “taken this too far”. He and Bradley visited a space center to undergo centrifuge training, which prepares astronauts for space. The simulator recreates the extreme gravitation forces that astronauts would experience in space, but it can be difficult to handle.
Barney opted to go first and while he managed to see it through, he didn’t appear to enjoy himself. While he was in the simulator, the voiceover outlined the risks of the training, saying: “The risk of losing vision or consciousness at high G are in directly in proportion to an individual’s age and fitness – none of which are working in Brad’s favour.”
As Brad takes on the challenge, Barney admits: “I’m genuinely worried that I’ve taken this too far.” However, The Chase presenter survives the ordeal, marking another adventure ticked off their list.
Bradley and Barney won over millions of fans with Breaking Dad and have gone on to work together on other TV projects. Most recently, the duo hosted the BBC’s reboot of iconic show Gladiators together, proving that Barney has inherited his dad’s TV presenting skills.
Away from TV presenting, Barney is a busy actor who is best-known for playing Cam Mickelthwaite in the long-running BBC medical drama, Casualty. He’s also starred in Law & Order: UK and Doctors.
Barney has taken centre stage in the new instalment of Casualty, with his character’s past being explored in depth. It’s been claimed that after Charlie Fairhead star Derek Thompson departed Casualty after 38 years, TV bosses are hoping to make Barney the star of the show. A source previously told OK!: “Casualty are looking towards Barney, now that Charlie is gone. Barney could be the next star of the show.”
Speaking about joining the show and being part of Charlie’s exit, Barney told the Express at the Inside Soap Awards last year: “Being a newcomer to Casualty, we haven’t been there relatively long to everyone else, so for Charlie to be a part of our first episode and to be a part of Charlie’s last episode is a massive, massive honour. To be able to be part of that it’s an historic moment, because that’s what it is really.”
