Rida Amaan has been revealed to be the whistleblower who leaked footage to a TV documentary crew in Casualty.
Casualty star Sarah Seggari, who plays nurse Rida Amaan in the long-running BBC drama, has admitted the character wishes she had “played it differently” after Rash Masum (played by Neet Mohan) decides to take his own life. After weeks of speculation, Rida was revealed to be the whistleblower who had exposed Holby ED’s flaws when she released footage from the department to a TV documentary company.
Speaking exclusively to Express.co.uk Sarah confesses Rida feels nothing but regret about the outcome after she learns of Rash’s actions. The young doctor took the fall for her and told Clinical Lead Patrick Onley (played by Jamie Glover) that he was responsible, having been suspected of the actions by his superior for weeks.
“I think that’s one of those moments in her life, Rida will never forgive herself for that. Never ever, ever,” Sarah says emphatically. “Until her dying breath, she will feel guilty about that moment.
“And I totally understand that,” she concedes.”It’s going to be a moment in her life that she regrets that she wishes she had played it differently. Completely played it differently because she can never take that back never ever, ever.”
The regretful outcome happens even though Rida bites the bullet and confesses what she has done when she learns Rash has taken the blame. However, her admission comes too late for him as he has already made his heartbreaking decision.
Rida Amaan was revealed as the whistleblower in Casualty
While the drama has kept viewers glued to the their screens Sarah admitted her mother is not impressed by her character’s actions.
“I think it was so well put together that nobody thought it was me. I’ve got messages from my mum, my grandma, they were all like, ‘Who could it be?’
“Nobody thought it was me and it was so tough [keeping the secret]. I’ve had people message me and say you need to speak to HR and people sticking up for Rida.
“The only person who hasn’t stuck up for Rida is my mother. She messaged me the other day and said she deserves everything she gets. If she gets fired she deserves it,” Sarah laughed.
Rida Amaan came clean to Patrick Onley about what she had done
“Like, ‘Thanks, Mum. Support me at all?’ And then she said: ‘Well, there’s no chance of you two [Rash and Rida] getting it together now!”
Asked if she had divulged the fact she was the whistleblower to her mother before broadcast Sarah chokes laughing.
“She’s such a blabbermouth. No. I can’t tell her anything,” she giggled.
