What’s David Boreanaz doing next after SEAL Team?

David Boreanaz has led the Bravo Team as Jason Hayes since SEAL Team first debuted on CBS in 2017. The series follows a sub-unit of the United States Naval Special Warfare Development Group, the most elite unit of Navy SEALs, as they plan and undertake dangerous missions worldwide with little notice, and the burden placed on them and their families. It also stars Neil Brown Jr. as Ray Perry; Jessica Paré as Mandy Ellis; A. J. Buckley as Percival “Sonny” Quinn; Toni Trucks as Lisa Davis; Judd Lormand as Eric Blackburn and Raffi Barsoumian as Omar Hamza. Dylan Walsh and Beau Knapp will also be coming on board in the new season in recurring roles.

SEAL Team moved over to Paramount+ during its fifth season, and in November 2023, news broke that Season 7 would serve as the final season.

“For six seasons I have been fortunate and blessed to be a part of an outstanding cast and crew,” Boreanaz, who also serves as an executive producer, said in a statement at the time. “Every day spent was a note of thanks to our men and women in the military and Special Ops. I thank our fans, and I’m proud we were able to make this show to shine light in the darkness toward so many suffering today. I look forward to season seven and the opportunity to end this series with love and gratitude.”

Production on Season 7 was stalled significantly due to the SAG-AFTRA strikes, but the cameras were able to pick back up in January 2024 and the final chapter hits viewers’ screens this August.

Although the military drama has not come to an end just yet, Boreanaz already has a new project in the works and its unlike anything he’s ever done before. While attending the Monte-Carlo Television Festival, the Bones alum told our sister site Variety that he is currently developing the screenplay for a series that he could also star in and produce.

Boreanaz has tried his hand at both directing and producing, but this is his first time he’s penned a screenplay and he admitted that his writing skills are still a “work in progress.” He explained: “I’m really good at the dialogue writing. I’m very good at that. I’m getting better at structure. You know, it is work in progress for me. But I love character breakdowns. I love, you know, story pointing, and all that stuff. So creating, yes. I am very good at creating.”

When asked what the series is about, Boreanaz teased: “I’m watching a lot of ‘The Sopranos’ right now.” He noted that his new show will not be about the Mafia, but teased: “You know what, I love suits, I love style, I love cars.”

The Buffy the Vampire star also revealed that he has had conversations with Paramount+ about developing future projects. “Paramount+ is a great group of people, and we have had discussions from a director’s perspective, from a producing perspective, from a lead’s perspective,” he told the outlet. “So, some really good stuff on the horizon.”

In addition to SEAL Team, Paramount+ is also the home to the Yellowstone franchise, which now includes several prequels and sequels. Boreanaz noted that he would love to work with Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan in the future, but is also focused on becoming like Sheridan in terms of his writing and behind-the-scenes work. “Obviously, I would work with Taylor Sheridan, of course. He is brilliant,” he said, adding: “But I am going to become my own Taylor Sheridan.”

While fans are looking forward to whatever Boreanaz does next, they’re still holding out hope for more Bravo Team action and they just might get their wish. During his conversation with Variety, Boreanaz shared that a movie version of the show isn’t entirely out of the question. “As far as the film is concerned, I still feel as though a film can be easily achievable over some time,” he said. “Given how we shoot the show, and the locations and being fortunate to go to certain places around the world, and take the show, and tell these stories, and these guys’ drive, [this story] can be picked up at any time.”

He concluded, “So, without giving away any kind of end to the evolution of the series and where it is, it’s something that is open ended and I wouldn’t say dead.”
