Home and Away star breaks silence on Harper’s life-threatening labour

Home and Away star Jessica Redmayne has broken her silence on Harper Matheson’s life-threatening labour.

In scenes that air this week in Australia and in June in the UK, Harper will go into labour while walking in the bush with troubled teenager Eliza Sherwood, who is obsessed with Harper’s unborn child.

When Harper begs Eliza to get help, the 14-year-old looks like she will do nothing. After pretending to call an ambulance, Eliza waits to see what will unfold.

Speaking to TV Week about the ordeal, Redmayne said: “Harper believes Eliza is fascinated with pregnancy and babies, but she doesn’t realise it’s the pain of giving birth that Eliza is captivated by.”

Since coming to Summer Bay following a mysterious fire at her former foster home, Eliza has been accused of theft and arson and her foster parent Roo Stewart has become suspicious of her hostile behaviour.

Despite this, Harper believes that Eliza is just in need of a friend and believes that she can help her by reaching out and offering her some companionship.

“Harper believes Eliza is a misunderstood
 girl and only wants the best for her,” Redmayne explained.

Harper will seemingly change her mind when her ex, and the father of her baby Tane Parata, phones and a silent Eliza refuses to cooperate with him.

After noticing some missed calls from Tane, who doesn’t trust Eliza, Harper phones him back and explains what is going on.

Knowing that Harper is alone with Eliza, Tane panics because doctors have advised against a natural birth.

“Harper fears for the life of her unborn child – she was told giving birth naturally could put the baby’s life at risk,” Redmayne explained.
