It looks like we now know the title of the next Jurassic World movie. This information comes from a new trademark filing by Amblin Entertainment, the studio responsible for producing the fourth installment. They’ve applied to trademark the name “Jurassic World Rebirth,” hinting that this could be the title of the upcoming film, which was announced at the end of last year. Filming has wrapped in Thailand and production has moved to the UK, with some onset photos already leaking online. Needless to say, we have a lot of questions about this new set.
For starters, what do ancient ruins have to do with Jurassic Park? Since the film will likely take place on a new island, the ruins could just be part of the landscape and unrelated to the dinosaurs. Regardless, it’s possible the island is yet another breeding ground for genetically engineered dinosaurs like Isla Sorna, or it could be a regular island overrun with dinosaurs now that they’ve been unleashed on the world. With all that said, as intriguing as the ruins might be, this new aesthetic would be a welcome change for the series. We’re tired of the same old man-made labs.
However, the idea that Jurassic World 4 will return to its jungle roots and take place on an island, ditching the dinosaurs-living-with-humans concept, feels a bit dull. Or maybe it’s an ancient island similar to Skull Island from the MonsterVerse. Will Jurassic World 4 introduce natural dinosaurs that survived extinction 65 million years ago? As you can see, there are more questions than answers. The plot details of Jurassic World 4 are still under wraps.
Currently, the film is described as a soft reboot, and the subtitle “Rebirth” seems to confirm this direction. Gareth Edwards, known for his recent film “The Creator” and for kickstarting the MonsterVerse with the first “Godzilla,” has been appointed as the director. Edwards brings a unique style that blends visual spectacle with human stories, exactly what many franchises need. Universal Pictures may have found the ideal director for the next Jurassic movie. Edwards now faces the challenge of meeting high expectations and drawing audiences to a reboot without the involvement of the old cast. This won’t be easy, but Edwards has stated that Jurassic World 4 will not be a complete reboot but rather a local reimagining. This means that the events of the previous trilogy with Chris Pratt could remain canon but won’t impact the new story.
The fourth installment will likely take place after “Dominion” but with entirely new protagonists. Scarlett Johansson has officially joined the cast in a significant role. There are also rumors that she signed a contract for three appearances, hinting at another potential Jurassic trilogy. Joining Johansson is Jonathan Bailey, who will play a leading role, and Mahershala Ali, rumored to be the main human villain.
Universal and Amblin are starting fresh, even though the previous films were quite successful. At this point, we don’t expect any of the old cast members to appear in the new installment since no one has confirmed their involvement. It’s clear there will be a new cast and a separate story. David Koepp, the original writer of “Jurassic Park,” is responsible for the story, returning to the franchise after 30 years to pen the screenplay. Gareth Edwards has already expressed his gratitude to Koepp for joining the upcoming movie, emphasizing the importance of having such a pivotal figure involved.
It’ll be interesting to see where the franchise heads next. With the return of the original screenwriter, there’s hope that the old atmosphere might return in the fourth movie, especially if this is a reboot. Variety has revealed that the next film will be a completely fresh take, launching a new Jurassic era following three adults and three teens getting stuck on the island. The Jurassic franchise has the potential to follow in the footsteps of Warner Brothers’ MonsterVerse, which has methodically developed its Titan-centric stories. Creating such a universe for Jurassic World would allow for exploring new plots and delving deeper into the organizations and characters driving the film’s events.
The franchise has reignited public interest in dinosaurs by skillfully blending new elements with Spielberg’s tried and true formula. While serving as a reboot, the authors have maintained the spirit of the original narrative, focusing on the theme park concept where dinosaurs escape control, wreaking havoc and terror. Despite the park’s more futuristic decor and technology in Jurassic World, the core storylines and twists remained familiar and beloved by fans. Many believe the next project should return to its roots with a story reminiscent of horror, featuring a grim and terrifying atmosphere where a group of survivors tries to live among dinosaurs.
As filming has begun in the UK, we can expect many more details about Jurassic World 4. Stay tuned.
