Get ready for another significant new arrival in Summer Bay! Following the tumultuous and unsettling departure of foster child Eliza Sherwood, Home and Away has confirmed the introduction of a brand-new character: Cohen, a young boy in need of a foster carer! This development comes directly in the aftermath of Roo Stewart’s (Georgie Parker) harrowing experience with Eliza, pushing her fostering journey into a new, challenging chapter.
The Eliza Aftermath: Roo’s Battle and New Determination
The “Eliza plot” saw Roo welcome troubled teenager Eliza into her home, only to discover Eliza was far more manipulative and dangerous than she seemed. Eliza displayed disturbing behaviour, including secretly filming Harper giving birth, stealing Alf’s heart medication, and showing a chilling lack of empathy, almost letting Alf suffer a serious medical emergency. Roo was heartbroken when Eliza was eventually removed from her care and institutionalised for psychiatric help.
In the wake of this, Alf Stewart (Ray Meagher) strongly urged Roo to give up fostering altogether, fearing for her well-being. However, Roo, despite her heartache, is standing firm in her commitment to helping children in need. She is determined not to let one negative experience deter her from her calling.
Meet Cohen: A Boy in Crisis
Upcoming Australian-paced episodes will introduce Sergeant David Langham, who is called to a scene involving a homeless woman named Samantha and her young son, Cohen (played by Nathan Murray). When police discover stolen mobile phones in Samantha’s car, she is arrested, leaving Cohen distressed and alone. The police learn that Cohen and his mum have been without a home for a while.
“He’s very scared,” Nathan Murray revealed to TV Week about his character. “The police are taking away the only person he has. She was doing everything for him, so he’s also worried, confused and angry.”
Roo’s New Fostering Challenge: Trust Issues and Past Scars
With Samantha in custody, David arranges for Cohen to be placed with a new foster carer – and that carer is Roo Stewart.
Cohen, deeply affected by his mother’s arrest and the separation, is understandably wary and distrustful of his new carer. “Cohen doesn’t want to trust anyone because of what happened to his mother, so he doesn’t trust Roo filling that spot,” Murray explained. “He’s completely destroyed realising he and his mum will be apart for a long time.”
Roo, still raw from her recent troubles with Eliza, will also feel unsure of herself as she steps into this new fostering role. The experience with Eliza has left its mark, making her question her judgment and abilities.
The arrival of Cohen promises to be a deeply emotional and challenging new storyline for Roo, as she attempts to build trust with a scared and confused child while also battling her own lingering doubts from the Eliza ordeal. Can Roo and Cohen find common ground and heal each other? Stay tuned!
