‘We are ecstatic, we are safe’: Former Home and Away star announces ‘miracle’ pregnancy after years-long fertility struggle

Former Home and Away star Christie Hayes has been through a challenging four-year long IVF journey with her husband Justin Coombes-Pearce.

The 38-year-old radio host has been candid about the ups and downs of her fertility journey on The Hit Network’s Dan & Christie over the past few years – and now she has some happy news to share.

After years of fertility struggles, Hayes can finally announce she and Coombes-Pearce are expecting their first child together.

She has two sons, Hendrix and Harley, from a previous relationship.

“I am pregnant, we are ecstatic, we are safe and we’re in the second trimester already,” she said on air with her co-host Dan Taylor this morning.

Over the years, while documenting her journey to fall pregnant, Hayes opened up about a miscarriage she experienced and other heartbreaking fertility struggles she encountered. It all led to this moment, she says.

“Our lucky number is four. Isn’t it funny how it was our fourth round of IVF in our fourth year of marriage, and everything has just worked out?” she said.

“And you never think it’s going to when you’re doing IVF. That’s the thing, you’re in such a painful time that you can’t see it working out, but sometimes it does.”

This morning’s emotional show included a throwback to the moment Hayes told co-host Taylor about the pregnancy back in March, and the many segments in which she has spoken about her IVF journey on-air.

While she now has happy news to share, the gravity of fertility struggles is not lost on her.

“I can’t express to you how overjoyed we are, but mostly I just want you to know that if you are going through IVF, or if you’re trying to have a baby, I have been where you are,” she said as her voice cracked with emotion.

“I have been where you are. I know how hard it is. I know what it’s like for women out there, for men out there, for the partners out there, for the people that try and try and try and you feel like you can’t get anywhere.

“I just want you to know that it can happen. When you least expect it, your life can change and sometimes everything is just OK.”

Hayes also took a moment to thank her audience who have followed along with her IVF journey and filled her with hope.

“Where there is hope, there is life,” she said, “so thank you.”

Hayes later shared her family’s happy news to Instagram with a photo of her husband and her two boys cradling Hayes and her baby bump.

“And after the rain, came the rainbow. We are all over the moon to announce the news that we are expecting” she wrote.

“The most prayed for, wanted, adored baby that we are all so in love with already.”

“After losing a baby, two back to back chemical pregnancies, our miracle is finally here. And now, somehow, it makes sense. The final piece of our puzzle,” she continued.

“To my fellow IVF warriors – I see you. I am you. If you’re still waiting, still aching, still hoping – please don’t give up.

“Your miracle might just be around the corner, your story is still unfolding and we never know what the next chapter holds.

“Our beautiful boys and my darling husband @justincoombespearce and I couldn’t be happier.”
